Willott: Government response to tainted blood inquiry welcome

1.53.00pm GMT Thu 5th Mar 2009

Today Harriet Harman announced that the Government will reverse its previous decision and give an official response to the Archer Inquiry into haemophiliacs who were infected with HIV or Hepatitis because of tainted blood products.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat MP, Jenny Willott, who has campaigned on the issue, said:

"This will be extremely welcome news to all the surviving victims who continue to suffer daily because of this appalling saga.

"The prospect of a full debate in Parliament is particularly promising. It seems that ministers are finally prepared to talk openly about what is one of the worst health disasters this country has ever seen.

"Lessons of the past must inform future blood safety policy."
